Sprint Video Relay Service (VRS), is a free service that provides sign language users the opportunity to communicate by video conferencing using their native language.

Benefits of using VRS:

Voice Diagram
  • Enable the ASL user to communicate in his/her native language.
  • Vastly increased communication speed.
  • Enhance communication, with use of facial expression and body language cues.
  • Remove communication barriers for slow typists and/or exclusive ASL users.
  • Able to make interruptions.
  • Able to work efficiently with automated telephone transfer systems.
  • Provide functional equivalency of making phone calls.
VRS Equipment

Sprint VRS Requires:

  • A computer (PC or laptop) or television monitor
  • A web camera or videophone equipment
  • Broadband Internet access (e.g. cable, DSL, T1)

Webcam Equipment Give the video interpreter (VI) one of the following for the person you are calling:

  • IP address
  • Sprint VRS Mail extension number
  • ISDN number

911 Calls:
During emergency situations, dialing 911 directly is the most reliable method to access emergency services via TTY or phone.
